Postdoctoral M.S. Degree in Orthodontics
The 36-month Postdoctoral Program in Orthodontics provides intensive advanced training in specialized biological and clinical sciences, and is designed to satisfy all requirements for American Board of Orthodontics certification. Its combination of clinical experience, lectures, seminars, and extensive laboratory coursework is integrated with treatment of various kinds of malocclusions. Upon successful completion, a Master of Science degree is awarded.
Techniques practiced include:
- The fundamental edgewise and Tip-Edge treatment
- Modifications of basic edgewise mechanotherapy
- Differential force straight wire technique

Interdisciplinary programs include:
- Rotations in the multidisciplinary temporomandibular dysfunction clinic
- Conference and clinical sessions for patients requiring combined orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery
- Conferences and seminars regarding cleft palate/craniofacial work, adult orthodontics and the periodontally compromised patient
Students must research, submit, and defend a written thesis. They are also required to present records of completed patients according to A.B.O. guidelines, in a mock A.B.O. examination setting.
Admission Requirements
Prospective postdoctoral students seeking admission for the July 1st entry may submit applications through October 1st of the prior year (on-line). GRE scores, a letter of recommendation from the Dean of your dental school, three letters of recommendation from other dental school faculty, undergraduate college transcripts, dental school transcripts, and National Board Scores Part 1 must be submitted along with application. Board scores are preferred but not required for international students. Some applicants will be chosen for admission interviews, which are required before acceptance. Students should also apply to the National Matching Program.
