Reunion Attendance Tops Past Records! Class Reunion Day 2009 at the College of Dental Medicine was an overwhelming success!  This year’s reunion boasted an attendance of over 175 participants, including reunion alumni representing the classes of 1954 through 2004 along with other alumni, faculty and friends.  Reunion Day festivities were kicked off with an opening luncheon at the beautiful Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center.  Highlights of the day included a keynote speech on periodontitis and cardiovascular disease delivered by Dr. Kenneth Kornman, Chief Scientific Officer for Interleukin Genetics, as well as the presentation of the Distinguished Alumni Award to Dr. Steven Syrop '80 for his service to CDM.  Most recently, Steve has taken a leadership role in our global oral health externships program in sub-Saharan Africa through the Millennium Villages Project.  The day ended with a lively cocktail reception, where each reunion class was honored. In addition to being the biggest reunion gathering in recent years, this was also the most generous.  Fundraising committees led by Roy Boelstler '59, Martin Davis '74, and Gregg Lituchy '84 worked hard encouraging their classmates to give back to their alma mater.  The result was an overwhelming success: this year’s reunion raised a spectacular $100,000 in pledges, over ten times last year’s total and 20 times the previous year.  This amazing accomplishment demonstrates the strong commitment and high caliber of our alumni and friends.    Thanks to the help of our dedicated class representatives (listed below), more alumni than ever before were able to connect with CDM during Class Reunion Day 2009. Class Reunion Day '08 Over one hundred alumni from classes ending in 3's and 8's attended Class Reunion Day on May 9. The day-long program included an update on CDM by Dean Lamster, a lively panel discussion on Ethics, and a presentation by Dr. Letty Moss-Salentijn and Dr. John Zimmerman on improving teaching methods using new technology. Each reunion class was recognized and given gifts by students at a festive cocktail reception which concluded the reunion day activities. The Class of '58 gathered for a private dinner at a Manhattan restaurant, the Class of '63 attended a BBQ at the home of Michael Schwartz in New Paltz, NY, and the Class of '78 held a Reunion weekend at the end of June which featured a boat cruise and a brunch at the Medical Center's Faculty Club.
