Dental Services for Pre-School Children and Senior Citizens
The Mobile Dental Center is a partnership between the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, the Children’s Aid Society and Crest Healthy Smiles 2010. It is fully equipped with two dental operatories, x-ray equipment, waiting/oral health education area and handicapped accessible chairlift. The Mobile Dental Center is staffed with a dentist, pediatric resident, dental hygienist, dental assistant, and driver/data entry clerk.
The Center travels to over 50 local Day Care and Head Start centers throughout northern Manhattan during the school year offering children ages 3-5 years comprehensive dental care. Parked adjacent to the host site two or more times per month, follow-up appointments are made every six months. Children requiring specialty services are referred to affiliated Community DentCare or Children’s Aid Society dental clinics located throughout Washington Heights/Inwood and Harlem. Our partnership with Alianza Dominicana facilitates enrollment into Medicaid or Child Health Plus for the uninsured.
Pre-schoolers receive the following services:
- Dental exams
- Cleanings
- Fluoride treatments
- Sealants
- X-rays
- Restorative care
- Oral Health Education
- Referrals for specialty and emergency services
- Referrals for free or low cost health insurance
Screenings for senior citizens:
During the summer months, the Mobile Dental Center offers northern Manhattan’s elderly population free dental screenings and referrals for further dental treatment at senior centers throughout Washington Heights/Inwood and Harlem.
Senior Citizens receive the following services:
- Free dental screenings
- Oral health education and information
- Referrals for emergency services
