Orientation

Mandatory Orientation for all postdoctoral students: June 21-23, 2022

Orientation will consist of mandatory information sessions intended to introduce you to the College of Dental Medicine and the Columbia University Medical Center Campus. You will meet key administrators and faculty members that will be instrumental throughout your education at CDM.

First Day of Classes:  July 1, 2022

On-Campus Housing

Application dates for incoming dental graduate students is February 1-March 31, 2022: students who require either single or couples housing and will be enrolled in either the Dental Grad Programs (AEGD, Endo, Ortho, Perio, and Prostho) may apply for CUMC on-campus housing online. Housing notifications will be sent via email beginning in April - mid May to the email address you provided when filling out your application.

Activating your UNI

Your UNI is your University Identifier. It is made up of the first letters of your first and last names followed by a series of numbers. Many of the resources at Columbia require you to log in using your UNI and password.  In order to locate your UNI, please visit http://cuit.columbia.edu/cuit/manage-my-uni you will be asked for your first and last name, last 4 digits of your SSN, and your date of birth. Please follow all directions carefully after that.

If you have followed the instructions correctly, you will receive a confirmation that your uni@columbia.edu (link sends e-mail) has been properly setup and you will have access to you ID number which starts with C followed by 9 numeric digits- you can find this number by logging in to Student Services Online (https://ssol.columbia.edu/)

University Email Accounts - WAIT FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS

Email accounts at the Columbia University Medical Campus (CUMC) are exchange email accounts and follow much more strict protocol than other university emails due to the sensitive nature of patient information for our clinical students.  Set up instructions for your CUMC exchange accounts (@cumc.columbia.edu) will be sent out in the next month.

PLEASE DO NOT set up any Columbia email accounts until you receive detailed information. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SET UP LIONMAIL, Alias email accounts or anything besides a CUMC exchange account for which we will send instructions. If you set up anything else, it will create extra steps and confusion when we need to get your email properly configured.

Student Health Services

Please be advised that it is a requirement that all new students complete and submit health forms via the Student Health portal at http://www.cumc.columbia.edu/student-health/especially/new-students. Do not wait until the last minute to take care of this. You will not be allowed in the dental clinic if you have any health holds during the months of July-August. Change of Address

Anyone who has a change of address should notify the Admissions & Student Affairs office in writing via email to  cdm-pgadmissions@cumc.columbia.edu, including the dates the address will be valid, and the new telephone number.  As an incoming student, you are responsible for responding to all formal requests throughout the summer, regardless of your summer plans or location.

International Students

Refer to the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO-CUIMC) webpage here for helpful resources. Students must apply for a Form I-20 directly through Compass, ISSO's system accessed through the website.  Any specific questions about the application process should be addressed to the ISSO-CUIMC at cumc-intl-students@columbia.edu.

ID Cards 

New students entering the University for the next term, will be able to submit a photo online for your first University ID card. Before you submit your photo, please read the information provided here.

ID Card Photo Requirements

The photo should be passport-style and meet the following requirements:

The photo should be a color, JPEG file
  •  The background should be uniform and light-colored
  •  You must face forward with, head and shoulders clearly visible
  •  No photos with sunglasses or hats will be accepted
  •  The file cannot exceed 100k in size

The size of the photo you submit must be less than 100 kilobytes.  If you need to resize your photo before submitting, you may do so by using any one of the following applications.

  •  Desktop:
              Picasa,
              Photoshop,
              Microsoft Picture Manager (PC only)
              iPhoto (Mac only)
  •  Online : Web Resizer

Submit a Photo 

To submit a photo, first make sure you have activated your UNI, then log into the secure site to submit your ID photo.

The deadline to submit a photo for the Fall Semester is TBD. You will receive your University ID card when you arrive on campus.
