Dr. Smaldone is a nurse scientist whose research involves self management of youth and adults with chronic health conditions. She is a pediatric nurse practitioner and certified diabetes educator. She received her PhD in nursing from Columbia University School of Nursing and completed Postdoctoral training in behavioral research at the Joslin Diabetes Center and Harvard Medical School. She is currently the Director of the PhD program in the School of Nursing and leads the Interdisciplinary Education Project for the HRSA funded Faculty Development in General, Pediatric, and Public Health Dentistry program.

Research

Dr. Smaldone's research centers on self-management of youth and adults with chronic health conditions.  Her current research projects are funded by NIDDK and HRSA. A recently completed project was funded by NINR.
