In addition to the programs and events offered by the College of Dental Medicine, there are many Columbia University offices that offer support for faculty and sponsor professional development programs.

CUIMC Office of Faculty Professional Development, Diversity and Inclusion

The Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) Office of Academic Affairs supports faculty career development; facilitates faculty recruitment, appointment, retention, and promotion; and ensures that faculty are informed through medical center-wide dissemination of relevant information to faculty and academic administrators. Under the Academic Affairs umbrella, the CUIMC Office of Faculty Professional Development, Diversity and Inclusion provides support and guidance to faculty through comprehensive programs and online resources.

The CUIMC Office of Faculty Professional Development, Diversity and Inclusion offers a wide variety of programs, all of which serve as both skill-building and community-building opportunities. Some of the types of programs offered include junior faculty development workshops; new faculty welcome; leadership and management; mentoring; skills workshops in areas such as teaching, writing, and research development; and programs for specific faculty groups such as women and diverse faculty.

Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement

The Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement was established in 2014 to promote and nurture a vibrant climate of inclusive excellence through creative collaboration with University partners. The Office facilitates faculty development, diversity, planning, and community-building initiatives with an emphasis on creating a welcoming and inclusive climate at the University.

Columbia Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL)

The CTL offers a wide range of free services including individual consultations and teaching observations, programs in course and curricular design, support for documenting teaching development and effectiveness, workshops in subjects such as effective communication, inclusive teaching, active and collaborative learning, and use of digital media and emerging technologies, and a range of learning communities and professional development institutes.

Center for Education Research and Evaluation (CERE)

The Center provides resources for educators through services and efforts in evaluation, research and educator development.

Virginia Apgar Academy of Medical Educators

The Apgar Academy is an active community of educators at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons dedicated to promoting, rewarding, and supporting outstanding education for the medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty at VP&S. Teaching tips and other electronic resources for educators are posted on their website.

Human Resources Learning & Development (HR/L&D)

The CU Human Resources office sponsors a variety of classroom and online professional skills training courses, including access to Lynda.com. Topics include leadership training, project management, dealing with difficult situations. Online courses are free. Most in-person workshops are held on Manhattanville campus and involve a minimal fee.

CUIMC Learning offers courses tailored for the medical center community located on the medical center campus or online. Additional resources, such as information about coaching and mentoring and suggestions for on-the-job training opportunities, are available on the CUIMC Learning website.

Office of Work/Life

Columbia University's Office of Work/Life fosters the well-being of the Columbia community and its people in their pursuit and productive academic, personal and work lives.

Ombuds Office

Columbia University's Ombuds Office offers a confidential place for faculty, students, staff or alumni to discuss workplace issues, academic concerns, issues relating to administrative paperwork and process, explanation and interpretation of policies and procedures, and many other problems with the goal to explore options, develop strategies, review policies and manage expectations.

Student Conduct and Community Standards

Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS) supports the Columbia University community to mantain a safe and responsible campus environment through the following functions: policies and procedures, Dean's discipline, gender-based misconduct and student disciplinary records.

Office of the Executive Vice President for Research

The Office establishes and administers policies governing the conduct of research at the University and oversees the management of its research programs. It also assists investigators seeking external funding, promotes interdisciplinary research and awards money for early stage investigations.

Funding and Grantsmanship for Research and Career Development Activities

This evening course, directed by Dr. Jaime Rubin, covers support and review processes for research and training activities and provides guidance for proposal development. Some presentation materials and links to other resources are publicly available on the course page. 

Sponsored Projects Administration

Sponsored Projects Administration serves as a central resource to support the research community at Columbia University by providing support to investigators in their pursuit of research and other scholarly activities while ensuring compliance with federal University and private sponsor regulations, terms and conditions.

RASCAL

RASCAL is a web-based application developed to simplify the University's research compliance and research administration processes. It is designed to help researchers and administrators manage ongoing research projects and related compliance activities here at Columbia.

Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research

The Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research provides, among other offerings, services to Columbia researchers spanning all stages of the translational science spectrum, from basic research to public health. These include research support services, core facilities, funding opportunities, and education, training, and mentoring.

Augustus C. Long Health Sciences Library

CUIMC's library hosts classes on systematic reviews, database search, organization, and the research process and offers dedicated time with informationists for help with topics such as systematic reviews, literature searches, and refining a research question.
