The 5th Annual Kathleen Hickey Endowed Lectureship in Science of Cardiovascular Care will be held on Thursday, February 19th, 2026, from 4 PM to 6:30 PM EST. This in-person event will feature two researchers from UTokyo: Mayumi Morisaki-Nakamura, PhD, RN, PHN, and Toshiko Fushimi, RN.
Mayumi Morisaki-Nakamura, PhD, RN, PHN, is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Family Nursing at UTokyo. The title of her talk is "Lifespan care and transition support for patients with congenital heart disease in Japan: Current status, clinical practice, and future directions." Dr. Morisaki-Nakamura’s work centers on transitional support for adolescents with childhood-onset chronic diseases—particularly congenital heart disease. Her goal is to build a seamless healthcare system that promotes lifelong physical, mental, and social functioning, using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
Toshiko Fushimi, RN, is a Homecare Nurse of the UTokyo Homecare Nursing Agency. The title of her talk is "Home care nursing practices for persons aged 80 and older with heart failure: A qualitative study." Fushimi’s research focuses on end-of-life (EOL) care using qualitative methods. She conducted qualitative research on home-based care for individuals >85 years old with heart failure, aiming to prevent re-hospitalization and potentially facilitate home-based EOL care.
There will be a poster session during this event.
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
