Scott Bueno, DDS '18, new grad from the College of Dental Medicine

Scott Bueno '18: Dental Degree Done. Next Up Is an MD

Scott Bueno, DDS '18, a California native and UC Berkeley graduate, is excited about his next steps on the way to becoming a maxillofacial surgeon.

Why did you choose to go to dental school?

While I was always interested in healthcare and surgery, a series of both positive and negative interactions with surgeons in different specialties led me to the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The artistic allure of this specialty led to me applying to dental school prior to medical school. The scope of what you can do was incredible to me and it still fascinates me today.

What are your plans after graduation?

I’ll be finishing medical school at UT Southwestern and doing an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Parkland Hospital in Texas.

Do you have any advice for future students?

Words for incoming students: Be comfortable with being uncomfortable so you can continually learn. Also, having balance and a good support system was key for me! Can’t thank my family enough for all of their love and encouragement.
