Albert J. Thompson, DDS Scholarship Fund

Since 1978 Dr. Albert J. Thompson was a revered faculty member and a passionate teacher and mentor. He founded the Office of Minority Affairs, now the Office of Access, Equity and Inclusion, and served on the Admissions Committee, working tirelessly to ensure that students underrepresented in dentistry were recruited and nurtured. A loyal alumnus, Dr. Thompson served as President of the Dental Alumni Association, a Class of 1960 Reunion Chair, and was awarded the University Alumni Medal in recognition of his volunteer service. You can make a donation in memory of Dr. Al Thompson, and in honor of his commitment to diversity and equal opportunity.

About the Fund

Diversity and equal opportunity are core values of Columbia, and Al Thompson was committed to upholding these goals for all aspects of the CDM community. The newly established Albert J. Thompson, DDS Scholarship Fund will provide need-based scholarship support for predoctoral students most underrepresented in dentistry.

If gifts and pledges to the Fund reach $100,000 prior to June 30, 2025, the Fund will become a permanent endowed fund, to be used to encourage diversity and inclusion in perpetuity. If the minimum for an endowed fund ($100,000) is not achieved by this time, this fund will remain a current use scholarship fund.
