Panos N. Papapanou Named Editor-in-Chief of High-Impact Dental Journal

The European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) has named Panos N. Papapanou, DDS, PhD, professor of dental medicine at Columbia University, the next editor-in-chief of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology.

The journal, which publishes peer-reviewed research in periodontology and implant dentistry, is ranked second out of 91 publications in the category of dentistry, oral surgery, and medicine as calculated by International Scientific Indexing, the EFP reported. Papapanou was associate editor of the Journal of Clinical Periodontology from 2009 to 2016. He will begin his term as editor-in-chief in March 2021.

A clinician-scientist and leader in his field, Papapanou is the chair of the Section of Oral, Diagnostic, and Rehabilitation Sciences and director of the Division of Periodontics at Columbia’s College of Dental Medicine. He has so far co-authored approximately 200 peer-reviewed publications that have been  cited more than 20,000 times and has received multiple research awards, including a Distinguished Scientist Award from the International Association for Dental Research in 2017.
