Dr. Laureen Zubiaurre Bitzer has almost thirty years’ experience in academic dentistry. She is the Senior Associate Dean for Admissions and Career Planning and Director of the Advanced Standing Program. She is an Associate Professor of Dental Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and an Instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Zubiaurre directs the admissions process for the predoctoral, postdoctoral and advanced standing programs and works closely with students in career planning during their four years, especially during the postdoctoral application process, in addition to overseeing our Advanced Standing program for internationally trained dentists. She is Co-Director of the MA in Science and Dental Education Dual Degree program with Teachers College. A faculty member at CDM since 1989, she has served in many roles including Dean of Students and Director of the third year predoctoral clinic. Dr. Zubiaurre received her DMD from Fairleigh Dickinson University College of Dental Medicine and her MS and PhD in Science Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is active in the American College of Dentists and the American Dental Education Association. Dr. Zubiaurre is a general dentist with many years of experience in private practice and faculty practice. Her scholarly interests include the use of reflection, predictors for success in dental school and how the use of assessment systems can affect performance on high stakes exams.
