Community and Global Engagement

The College of Dental Medicine is deeply committed to improving oral health both within our local communities and around the world through patient care, research, education, and service.

Locally, we serve as a major provider of oral health care for underserved populations in Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood through our clinics, student-run free clinic, outreach programs, and community initiatives. Globally, we advance oral health through research collaborations, educational partnerships, and service opportunities that address the needs of underserved communities worldwide.

Students are encouraged to make service an integral part of their education by participating in both local and global initiatives, from organizing oral health education events and volunteering in community programs to engaging in international academic partnerships and service experiences. We believe these experiences broaden our students' perspectives and prepare them to meet the oral health needs of an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.
